Senior Umbraco developers for organisations and agencies. We build, upgrade and support Umbraco websites, with AI-assisted engineering that gets the work done faster.
ByteAnt is an Umbraco development agency for established organisations and digital agencies in the UK, Denmark and the rest of the Nordics, the EU and the US. We build new Umbraco websites and online shops, upgrade older sites to Umbraco 17 LTS (long-term support) and look after live sites. Our engineers work at €40 an hour, and new websites start from €3,500.
New Umbraco websites and online shops on Umbraco Commerce, redesigns and rebuilds, with UX/UI design and several sites or languages where you need them. For a separate front end, we build headless sites in React or Next.js, with Umbraco serving the content.
Older sites moved to Umbraco 17 LTS. We start with a free audit and agree a fixed price before any work begins.
One monthly plan for live sites: security patches, fixes and small changes, done by the same engineers each month, so they know your site.
Connections to your CRM, ERP, payments and marketing tools, such as HubSpot and Stripe. We also set up Umbraco AI and Umbraco Automate, Umbraco's add-ons for AI help in the editor and automated workflows.
A second opinion on architecture, packages and hosting. We also do Umbraco plugin development: custom packages and extensions for the backoffice, the screens your editors work in.
Extra Umbraco developers who work under your agency's brand. You keep the client and the credit, and we sign a non-solicitation clause before we start.
Umbraco is our main platform, not one of twenty. The same engineers build, upgrade and support your site.
AI handles routine coding and checks, so your budget goes on the decisions that need an engineer. Every change still gets a human sign-off.
Our rates and package prices are published below, so you can set a budget before the first call. Technical project management is included in the rate.
AI works on local copies of your site, never on your live website. Nothing goes live until it has passed test and staging.
You sign with an EU company, under EU law. We sign an NDA before any code changes hands, and the code and IP are yours.
Several of our Umbraco clients have worked with us for years, as their reviews below say. The people who know your site stay on it.
ByteAnt is the author of ByteEditor, a commercial visual website builder for Umbraco, listed on the Umbraco Marketplace, running on 30+ production websites and supported on Umbraco 13 and 17 LTS.
Taking our own product through the Umbraco 13 to 17 backoffice rewrite showed us where upgrades and packages break, before your site meets it. The demo shows an editor building a page from ready-made blocks, without a developer.
Most Umbraco projects turn on a few early choices. These are the ones we compare with you, and what usually decides them.
| Decision | Options we compare | What usually decides it |
|---|---|---|
| Hosting | Umbraco Cloud, Azure or your own servers | Automatic minor updates and patches, against control and running cost; who manages it |
| New backoffice features | A community package, a commercial package or a custom backoffice extension | Whether a well-maintained package already does the job; licence cost against build cost; who keeps it updated |
| Page building | Umbraco Block List and Block Grid, ByteEditor or custom blocks | How much editors build pages themselves; budget and launch date |
| Search | Examine (built into Umbraco), Elasticsearch or Azure AI Search | Amount of content, filters and languages |
| Forms and workflows | Umbraco Forms, Umbraco Automate or your CRM's forms, such as HubSpot | Where the data must end up; approval steps |
| E-commerce | Umbraco Commerce or an external shop connected to Umbraco | Catalogue size, checkout needs and who runs the shop |
| Deployment and content sync | Umbraco Deploy (on Umbraco Cloud) or uSync | Cloud or self-hosted; how your team releases changes |
We build ByteEditor ourselves, and we'll tell you when another option fits better.
We agree the scope, then write the rules AI must follow on your project: what it may change, what it must not touch and which tests must pass.
Engineers build with Claude Code and the Umbraco MCP, using Umbraco's own AI skills, our skills and specialised subagents. That keeps the code to Umbraco's conventions instead of generic AI output, and all of it happens on a local copy of your site.
AI code review, unit tests and browser tests run on every change. We compare every page before and after, so a broken layout or missing content shows up before you see it.
An engineer reads every change, tests it and signs it off. Only then does it move to test, staging and your live site.

We built SummerApply, a marketplace for summer courses, on Umbraco: provider and student accounts, a searchable course catalogue, reviews, subscriptions and lead-based fees. The MVP launched in under 10 weeks.
We built a Swiss business software directory from the ground up on Umbraco: vendor accounts, filtered software search, a blog, events and jobs. It replaced a fragmented site with one platform.
We designed and built a new Umbraco website for the real estate investment arm of a Baltic investment company, working closely with its marketing team. It launched after two months, and the company moved its other sites to Umbraco.
We upgraded the international NGO's website to Umbraco 17 on Umbraco Cloud in 3 weeks, with 0 issues after go-live. We support the site, and Umbraco Cloud now applies security patches automatically.
For a Danish digital agency and long-term partner, we took a client's corporate site from Umbraco 8 to 13, then to 17. The 13 to 17 step took 3 weeks, and we still support the site.
We engaged ByteAnt to maintain our web presence and comparison database—a core part of our business. We were attracted by their technical expertise, eagerness, trust, and budget-conscious approach. They helped develop our marketplace for Swiss software vendors using Umbraco CMS, including GUI and workflow design. This platform became the backbone of our company, demonstrating ByteAnt's reliability and efficiency.

We needed an MVP to test a business idea. We hired ByteAnt and were impressed with their swift response, transparency, and reasonable pricing. Their developers' team built a platform with a catalog, search, filters, and user accounts on Umbraco CMS in under 10 weeks. Their expertise, responsiveness, and commitment stood out.

We give their services my highest recommendation. Managing enterprise Umbraco platforms demands more than superficial coding ability; it requires genuine, deep architectural mastery. This team possesses that crucial level of technical depth—they know the CMS at a fundamental level. Moreover, their ongoing support is exceptional: fast, proactive, and highly dependable.

A new Umbraco website costs from €3,500 for a small site, €8,000–14,000 for a medium one and from €16,000 for a large or complex one. UX/UI design is quoted separately, so you only pay for it if you need it. Integrations, languages and the number of page types decide where your site falls.
Most first releases take 2 to 8 weeks, and a site built from ready-made blocks sits at the short end. Large builds, with several sites, languages, an online shop or many integrations, take 3 to 6 months. You get a timeline with the estimate, after a call about scope.
Yes, and it's a common starting point. A free health check of the code, packages and hosting tells you what we'd fix first and what can wait. We don't need the previous agency's help, though access to the code repository and hosting makes the handover quicker.
Yes. The comparison table above shows the decisions we weigh most often, from hosting to search and e-commerce. You get a recommendation with the reasons and the running costs, written so you can share it with your board or IT team.
No. Partner tiers are a paid commercial programme. We invest instead in building for Umbraco, with ByteEditor on the Umbraco Marketplace.
Yes, it's one of the strongest choices for mid-sized and larger organisations. Umbraco runs on Microsoft .NET, gets regular security patches and long-term support (LTS) versions, and is backed by Umbraco HQ, which has developed it for more than 20 years. It handles many page types, several sites and languages, and integrations with your CRM or ERP, and the CMS itself is open source, with no licence fee unless you choose Umbraco Cloud hosting.
Yes, all three. Our Azure-certified specialists set up and run Umbraco on Azure, which gives you more control and can cost less to run; Umbraco Cloud applies minor updates and security patches for you, which suits teams without their own IT. We work with whatever you have, and we'll say if a move would pay off.
You own all the code we write, from the first day, and you can move to another supplier whenever you like. Our support plan has no minimum term, only 30 days' notice.
Yes, under rules that protect your data. We use Claude on a business plan whose terms exclude training on customer data. AI works on a local copy of your site, never on your live website. Changes reach test, staging and live through our normal deployment, after an engineer has reviewed them. Passwords and keys are kept out of AI's reach, and you own all the code. If your policy restricts AI, we agree the rules with you before we start.
ByteAnt is an Estonian company, so your contract and invoices are under EU law. Our engineers work in Estonia and Ukraine on Tallinn time: two hours ahead of the UK and one ahead of Denmark. Our founder, based in Tallinn, is the second engineer on every account, so at least two people always know your site. Your code and documentation live in your repository.
Yes, yours or ours, before any code or data is shared. If your organisation has its own template, we'll sign that.
We invoice in EUR, GBP or USD, whichever suits you. There is no VAT for businesses in the EU or the UK with a valid VAT number, or for clients outside the EU.
